Amphur Muaklek, Saraburi

Amphur Muaklek, Saraburi Province is located in the central highlands of Thailand and only about 140 km from Bangkok. The climate of the area is tropical Savannah with an annual maximum temperature of 32°C and an annual minimum of 20°C. Muaklek is situated 40 k.m. east of Saraburi on the way to Korat (Nakornratchsima). It's a small town of about 5,000 people. Muaklek is famous as the milky way of Thailand where the Thai Dairy Farm Organization is sited.

The district was created on December 27 1968, when the area of the former tambon Muaklek in Kaeng Khoi district was split into three tambon containing 33 villages, and formed a new district named Muaklek. The new district started operation on January 21, 1969. On May 7, 1970 the permanent district office building was opened.

1988 the northwestern area was split off from the district to form the new Wang Muang minor district.
